Music Journal

1990-1950

It Don't Mean A Thang(1931) - Duke Ellington

As old music goes, this son is pretty good. I actually kinda like it. I have loved Swing Dance ever since I heard it existed and thought swing music was pretty good. Its got a good swing to it. Its a nice and catchy song. It has gotten stuck in my head many times and I like it. This song is pretty popular still. For me, when I think about swing music, this is the first song that comes into my hea, and it is decades old.

Give My Regards To Broaway(1904) - George M. Cohan

This song is from an old musical. The song is ok. I wouldn't download it onto my Ipod, but I wouldn't have the need to change the channel if he song came on(unlike Justin Bieber). The song is mostly more like taking a song, not as much singing. I perfer songs that are actually people singing the songs and not really ones where they talk them, it doesn't show much talent.

Autumn Leaves (Les Feuilles Mortes) (1947) - Music by Joseph Kosma and lyrics by poet Jacques Prévert

I don't like this song at all. Its too slow and its in french so I don't understand it. I just don't find it entertaining at all. Not my style of music what so ever. Its just every boring to me. It has not beat really to it.

1950-1970

Jailhouse Rock (1957) - Elvis Presley

I like this song, I mean, its good for the time period. Its got a nice beat and fun lyrics. This music has progressed alot since the previous time period. A lot of people didn't like Elvis because his moves were 'vulgure', but now a days they are quiet tame. So in total, this is a pretty good song. Like, I wouldn't put it on myipod, but I don't mind listening to it once in a while or like in class and stuff. But I don't like enough to take the time to put it on my ipod ad I would never really listen to it if I did.

Sweet Caroline(1969) - Neil Diamond

I love this song. It is such a popular song and 2 of my favourite people have covered it. Jonas Brothers and David Archuleta. Its a nice song, and I'm suprised that I actually like it because I don't like many old songs. The 2 covers that I love are the 2 I mentioned before and I really like and love listening to.

I've Just Seen A Face(1965) - The Beatles

I love this song. I actually had it on my mp3 for a while, but never got around to putting it on my ipod. I love the music to this song and everything about it really. It is one of my favourite by The Beatles. It is one of the few old songs that I really like and wouldn't mind having n my ipod, well, the version that was sung in Across The Universe that is.

1970-2000

Don't Stop Belevin'(1981) - Journey

I love this song. I have a cover of it on my Ipod and love listening to it, Good melody and beat. It's got a good message to, basically dont give up. This song is one of my favourites and is really fun to sing along to. I have only heard the original version by Journey a few times but I like their version to. Liking the original is kind of a must:)

All Star(1999) - Smashmouth

I'm not gonna lie, I loved this song when I was a kid, and would consider puttin it back onto my ipod. It has a really catchy melody and tune in it. Its just a really fun song that brings back memories. The lyrics are fun too. Its an easy song to dance to and sing along too too.

I'm Too Sexy(1992) - Right Said Fred

This song is amazing. I love listening to it and watching video's people have made of it. It doesn't really have any point to it, but thats what makes it fun. Not all songs have to have a real meaning to it or have tobe about relationship. Sometimes songs about nothing are the best. This song is very easily stuck in my head as well.

2000's

Sk8r Boi(2002) - Avril Lavigne

This song is pretty good. I've never really been a huge Avril fan, but I don't mind this song and I will listen to it. It has a good message too. Basically that you dont have to be a certian way to be with a certian guy. In the song, the boy is a skater boy and she did ballet. Two very different people liked eachother and made it all work out great. This song is also really catchy and fun to dance to.

Candy Shop(2005) - 50 Cent

I don't like this song at all. It's all about sex and I don usually like songs about it. Thats one reason why I don't like half the music that it out now a days, sometimes I only like a song for the music itself but hate he lyrics. Sex songs are really pointless and unnessary. There are other ways to go about relationships in songs without always having to talk about sex.

A Little Bit Longer(2008) -Nick Jonas

This song is one of my favourites. It is not about sex and it isn't even about a relationship. Nick wrote it about his Type 1 diabetes. Its about going through a hard time in life. You don't even have to have diabeted to relate to it. One of the lyrics is 'A Little bit longer and I'll be fine'. This lyrics can really be applied to anything, any hard time you are going through in your life. It is such a beautiful song and you can tell that it was written straight from the heart.

Send It On - Protest Song

A words, just a word
'til you mean what you say
And love, isnt love
'til you give it away
We've all gotta give
Yes,something to give
To make a change

[Chorus:]
Send it on
On and on
Just one hand can heal another
Be a part
Reach a heart
Just one spark starts a fire
With one little action the chain reaction
Will never stop
Make us strong
Shine a light and send it on

Just Smile (Just smile)
And the world (and the world)
Will smile
Along with you..
That small act of love
Thats meant for one
Will become two

If we take the chances..
The chance circumstances
Imagine all we can do

[Chrous:]
Send it on
On and on
Just one hand can heal another
Be a part
Reach a heart
Just one spark starts a fire
With one little action the chain reaction
Will never stop
Make us strong
Shine a light and send it on

Send it on..

Theres power in all of the choices we make
So im starting now theres not a moment to wait

A word, just a word
'til you mean what you say
And love,isnt love
'til you give it away

Send it on
(Send it on)
On and on
(on and on)
Just one hand can heal another
Be a part
(be a part)
Reach a heart
Just one spark starts a fire
With one little action the chain reaction
Will never stop
Make us strong
Shine a light and
Give it on
Shine a light and send it on..

Send it on
(Send it on)
On and on
(on and on)
Just one hand can heal another
Be a part
(be a part)
Reach a heart
Just one spark starts a fire
With one little action the chain reaction
We'll help it start
Make us strong
Shine a light and
Give it on
Shine a light and send it on..

This song is about Global Warming and how to help stop it. It says that one person telling another person can help because it will spread like wild fire. It will start a chain reaction.

The thoughts are that a word is just a word. Meaning that global warming is just a word till people actually know that it is a problem and what they are talking about.
" We've all gotta give
Yes,something to give
To make a change "
This means that everyone has to give something for a change to happen, even if its as simple as unplugging your phone charger when you're not using it.
"Just one spark starts a fire
With one little action the chain reaction
Will never stop"
Say a person is a Spark, just one person can start a fire, one person can tell other people and those people will tell more. One person saying something starts a chain reaction and it won't stop because people will just keep telling another person and on and on.
"If we take the chances..
The chance circumstances
Imagine all we can do"
If people take the chance to change, they can change global warming. The circumstances could change, with taking a change only god knows what we can accomplish.
"Theres power in all of the choices we make
So im starting now theres not a moment to wait"
Different choices that are made can make different situations, theres a power to the choices that are made. People should start trying to help the earch now there's no time to waste, the longer we wait, without doing something, the worse shape our gets.

Global Warming has been around for a long time now, but in the past few years it has gotte worse because people kept ignoring it and kept makin my planet die by what they were doing. This issue is very serious. If people keep ignoring global warming, the the earth will be killed and with the earth killed, human life on the planet cannot live either. But if people start turning off lights when they leave the room or unplug their phone charger when not using it and driving around less etc. etc., then the earth can contine to live.

I do think that this is something that a pop artist should do. Writing songs about important issues can help alot. It does because when you are a popular artist, the people look up to you and wanna be like you. If you want to help save the planet, then people who look up to will will d the same. Its a great way to get people to listen without always realizing it. Everyone listens to music and so yes, it is a great way to spread awarness!

Titanic is afloat

Titanic is written by James Cameron. In my opinion, his is a great movie. The acting is great and the story is fantastic and the special effects were pretty good, even though there were very few. This movie is personally one of my favorite movies of all time.

The story is amazing. The fact that the story started in present day and the story is old to the treasure hunter, Bill Paxton, and some of his crew. I think that this is a fantastic idea and original. The romantic involved is really good too. There was the right about of action and romance in the movie. The adrenaline rushing art of the movie was done semi realistically. It would not have been that clam in the beginning in real life, but other than that, it was all realistic because titanic was a real ship, that part of the story is a true story. In the first disk, I fell in love with the characters and in the second disk, my heart was pounding waiting to see what happens next to the characters that I just fell in love with.

There were very special effects used, but the ones used were expensive and realistic. The ship sinking was the only part of the movie that required special effect, along with the beginning. But other than that, none were needed. In the beginning, the effects were used well. Showing us the ship that sunk so many years ago and showing small and quick clips of what it used to look like. There was also showing the size of the ship when it leaves the port. Then theres when the ship sinks. These effects were done extremely well. It looked realistic and kept in in the mood of the movie because I wasen't looking and paying attention to how fake it looked becuase it didn't.

The acting was great, I believed every word that the actors spoke. The romance between Jack and Rose was 100% believeable. I had no doubt that the two of them were in love and that Rose dosen't love Cal. Sure, some lines in the script were unrealistic, like when Rose was looking for Jack when he was handcuffed to the pipe, She calls out his name multiple times when she finds him and he starts sayin her name over and over again too, when in real life Jack would say something to do with getting out of the handcuff and getting the hell outta the bottom of the boat. The acting in the movie was realisic though, even with the few unrealistic things in the script, and so I cried when the director wanted people to cry and to laugh and smile when he wanted us too. Leonardo DiCaprio was a perfect choice for Jack. He is cute and fits the character very well

This movie is amazing and one of my favourites because of the amazing acting, realistic special effects and the overall story.

Blockbuster Films

In ways, I agree with both sides of the blockbuster argument. I agree with the fact that these movies come out to make money and to sell product. But I also think that they come out to show how much Hollywood can do.

One movie that is out now that makes a lot of money is New Moon. This movie makes a lot of money and sells a lot of product(along with Twilight). But the movies were also made for the fans of the books. The movies, in a way, are artistic too. To me, the movies seem different that many other blockbusters by the way that they were directed. Not many special effects were used in New Moon. Only the necessities like Jake changing into a wolf and the vampires sparkling. Those were basically the only ones used. Hollywood knows that this series can sell a lot of product and tickets and so they put out lots of product to make money, but that's just part of Hollywood.

Another blockbuster is Transformers 2. This movie is action filled and shows how much that Hollywood can do in special effects. This movie is entertainment, and bring special effects into the real world. Well, not quite real world cause Transformers don't really exist, but it brings the audience into a different form of reality, it lets out get out of our reality.

One of my favourite movies and blockbusters at the moment is Titanic. Sure, this movie made a lot of money, but there is not much product to the movie. The movie a lot didn't use many special effects, minimal were used. This movie is artistic, in my opinion. I don't think it was made just to make money. It is the story of a true story.

This is why I agree in both parts of this argument.

Portral of teens in the Media

My thought on the portrayal of teens in the media that that they dont protray us well. Sure, there are many types of teens, but the media only uses the extreme teen. Like, ones that are obsessed with drug or are sex driven. They don't use the average teen, becuase the 'average' teen is boring. So the media wants to portray a new 'average' teen where the teen is either super happy or the opposite. Which is some teens, there are some that are ahppy most of the time and would just burst out in song and there are the depressed one, ones that love drugs and are driven by sex. But no show actually portrays the majority of teens well.

When I use the word 'normal' teen, it is meaning the average teen. Sure, the average teen does go through phases where they are what the media is because they want to be 'cool' and they don't want to stand out and be diffferent. They just want to follow some celebraty and dress like them, which is where revealing clothing come into play. Like Brittany Spears and (soon to be) Miley Cyrus.

For Miley, kids still want to be like her even when she is trying to get an older audience, but the kids don't know this and still try to dress like her because she was once a singer for kids and not so much teens. People like this push media to go further and more extreme to keep teens entertained.

I don't think that the media is an actual portrayal. Its more from an adults point of few on teens, and not what teens really are. They see us as the media see's us, and don't pay attention to what we really are.

I believe that it is a negative portrayal, but somewhat positive. It's negative because it makes us what adults dont like. Most parents dont want their kids to do drugs or have sex alot before marrage, but when the media tells teens that that is 'cool' they follow it, even if their parents dont like it and then adults loose respect and don't trust us like they did in the past, because the media has changed society. But it can be sorta positive, but mainly only with Disney shows/movies. Where everything is happy and turns out better than before in the end, because it is for kids. And even though Disney doesn't portray us well either, its more positive cause they have to be nicer to kids, where non kids shows/movies can to, well, whatever they want.

Some examples of and happy show where everything turns out better than before is 'Camp Rock'. Even though this is one of my favourite movies, in the end everything is better than it was before the problem. Mitchie lies about who she is, and when everyone finds out, its not so good. But once Tess tells everyone, sure, everythign is bad for a bit, but in the end she still gets the guys and everyone likes her again. But in real life, that wouldn't happen. Life doesn't always have a happy ending.
^^^^^^^^^^

Another example of the opposite of Disney are those spring break specials on Much or MTV. It shows teens being crazy and everything, which some of us are, but not everyone. Some people don't do what the teens on spring break, adults take shows that that and apply it to every teen, if they know them or not.
^^^^^^^^^^

And lastly, a show that does portray teens sort of well is the show/movie 'Fame'. It tells a story about a bunch of people going to an arts school and going through problem there, and they are real life problems. Like boyfriends, parents telling you what to be when you get older and telling you what you can and can't do and teachers telling their students the awful truth. Like when the principal of the arts school tells Kevin about his dancing and does try to commit suicide. That is something that could happen.

The Media

I believe media is very important in my life. I believe this because music is my life. It gets me through the good and bad times I am having. I'm also gonna be an actress one day, and without media, that would be impossible because movies and TV are forms of media.

The types of media that I feel most passionate about and are most important in my life are film, TV and and music. They are most important because I love movies and TV and watching how they are made because I want to be an actor and so watching them help me know more about what it takes to make a movie. I love music because I love singing and it helps me get through everything. When I listen to music it helps me with stuff. If I'm sad, listening to certian songs will make me happy again. I'f I'm mad, music, again, makes me happy:)

I love our modern pop culture. The new technologym that helps us comunicate with friends and family and even people we don't know, is better than before. We can talk to each other instantally and even webcam and talk to the person like they're actually sitting right infront of you. There are not many things that I don't like about pop culture. Some gossip that i read is a little over the top and does get annoying to me, but I can live with it. I perfer real facts over gossip though. I'd rather know the truth than think I know the truth because of gossip. But I still like it if it involves my favourite stars. Then I alwayds real gossip cause I care about the people its about.

I feel most passionate about music. Without music the would would be different. Even movies would change because music is what makes the emotion in scenes. Some of my favourite music artists are the Jonas Brothers, Demi Lovato and Honor Society. I love these people because their music is real. They write about what everyone is, or can be going through. Some of their songs that mean the most to me are the Jonas Brothers 'Black Keys' and 'A Little Bit Longer' , Demi Lovato's 'Gift of a Friend' , and Honor Societys 'Two Rebels'. These mean alot to me because of what they mean and what the song tells you.
'Black Keys' --written by Nick Jonas--was orginally written about the black keys on the piano, but soon changed. It is now about how the world is better when you don't try to ruin it all with colour. Keeping the world black and white is simple and adding colour just makes the world complicated.
'A Little Bit Longer' --also written by Nick Jonas--is about his Type 1 diabeties. He was diagnotced in 2005, and sometimes has days where he feels low, like one of the lines in the song 'you don't know what it's like to feel so low'. But this song can be used in for any diseses or any bad time your going through, not just diabetes, even though it was orginally written about diabetes. Another one of the lyrics is 'You don't know what you got till its gone'. This means that once someting in your life is gone, you sometimes only then realize how much it really ment to you or how much you needed it. So you need charish everything in your life and don't take anything for granted because if it ever leaves you, it will be harder to get on in life or live without it.
Another song that means alot to me is 'Gift of a Friend' by Demi Lovato. This song is about friendship. Saying that friendship is something you earn. You can't just take friendship because true friendship is from the heart and nothing else. That friendship is a gift and not something you can buy.
The last song that means a lot to me is Honor Society's 'Two Rebels'. This song is pretty simple. It's basically saying that you can be who you wanna be. Don't listen or follow what everying else is doing or telling you to do. Be a rebel and be your own person.

Honor Society;

Demi Lovato;

Jonas Brothers;
